Deer Park has been home to dogs of all types for centuries, including our very successful family of working bloodhounds. We love dogs, and we love to have them stay … we ask though, that the dogs (and their humans!) follow a few key rules to make sure that Deer Park is kept at its best for all visitors, canine and human.
We have no restrictions on age, type or size of dog.
What do we need to bring?
Bed and/or crate, food and water bowls, favourite toys. Maybe some throws to protect sofa arms if your dog tends to rub on them. We can provide doggy towels and spare leads.
What can dogs do?
This is a great place for dogs – a large secure garden, miles of walks either in the park or across the Wolds, a tiled utility area for a wash down after a fun day out and a warm Aga to relax in front of.
Inside the house.
The kitchen, breakfast room, utility room and sitting room are warm, spacious and have cleanable floors – but please don’t let your dogs up into the bedrooms. And please don’t let them on the furniture or beds.
Dogs upstairs and on the furniture create a real problem for our cleaning team – even the cleanest dogs leave hairs! – and the extra time it takes to clean up will have to come from the deposit. We know most dogs owners are very responsible and will do their very best to keep the house clean, but we have only a short time to remove all traces of dog occupancy from Deer Park once you leave.
Finally, please don’t leave your dog alone in the house when you go out. So many dogs get upset when left in strange environments and comfort themselves through scratching or chewing. The only exception would be a dog who is happy being left for a short period in their own crate.
Outside the house
A large, secure garden (stock fencing up to about 4 feet high – you’d have to be a very athletic dog to escape) so plenty of room to run about. The garden often has rabbits and all sorts of wildlife, so plenty to keep dogs entertained!
Outside the garden is 20 acres of Capability Brown park, which dogs and people are welcome to explore in. Please note we ask dogs are kept on the lead at all times in the park – there is often livestock there (and always rabbits). In addition, the park is not completely dog proofed and is 1/2 mile from a busy road – don’t risk it!
We provide poop bags and ask all dog owners to check the garden daily and dispose of any poo.
