Life post lockdown, pt 2. The joy of disinfecting.

Are you packing your bags yet? With clearance from the government for the hospitality industry to re-open, it’s all systems go here at Deer Park and we’re really excited to be welcoming our first guests in July. While we wait, we’ve been developing our plans for how to make sure any risks for guests – and for our local community – are minimised.

This is a bit of a balancing act, because we also want to make sure that reducing risk doesn’t affect your holiday; no-one wants a holiday home that resembles a hospital ward. But here’s a quick summary of some things we can do:

  1. We have extended our cleaning process to make sure we deep clean at the end of every stay and disinfect all surfaces. This will take longer but we are doing our very best to stick with a check in time of 4pm and you can expect to arrive to a thoroughly ventilated and disinfected space. A cleaning checklist will be left for you so you know what’s been done. If you’d like to know exactly how we do it before you book, get in touch – a copy of our cleaning process is available to anyone who is interested.
  2. Everything on the beds (bedlinen, pillow, duvet and mattress protectors) will either go straight to laundry or be aired, disinfected and changed for the spare set.
  3. The house will be ventilated thoroughly for 6 hours before guests arrive. A nice side effect of being a long way from any neighbours is that we can keep doors and windows open to create a very virus unfriendly environment.
  4. Sadly, we will have to suspend a personal meet and greet until the government lifts restrictions on social distancing. We love to meet our guests but in this case the risks are too high to all parties. Of course we are at the end of the phone so we will check in with you on the evening of your arrival to see if we help with any questions or problems. Or please please call us if there is anything we can help with.
  5. Just in case…if any of you do develop troublesome symptoms during your stay, please please let us know. We will ask you to get a test at the York testing site (30 minutes away). If it’s positive, then the current advice is that you should go home and quarantine there. In that situation we can offer a refund for the part of the holiday you haven’t had, or discuss alternative dates for the balance of your holiday.

These are just the highlights (the full risk assessment is 5 pages of 8 point font!) – we hope it helps reassure you that we are doing all we can to keep you safe. If you’d like a copy of the risk assessment and/or our cleaning process (maybe you’re having trouble sleeping?), then please do get in touch; we’d be happy to share.
